    Travel route High Level Meeting

    1. The final destination of The Road to Nairobi 2016 was the 2nd High Level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) held in Nairobi, Kenya. The event took place from 28 November to 1 December 2016. As a multi-stakeholder platform the GPEDC aims to facilitate more effective cooperation between nations, businesses and organizations, to contribute to reach the UN Global Goals.

    2. Guided by its monitoring system, four principles are at the core of the GPEDC: (1) country ownership, (2) focus on results, (3) inclusive partnerships, and (4) transparency and accountability. Another important asset of the GPEDC is its network of more than 30 Global Partnership Initiatives (GPIs) that organize concrete actions for better development cooperation worldwide.

    3. Youth and women empowerment has been selected by Kenya as thematic priority to be further discussed in Plenary Session 4 of the HLM. This session will focus economically empowering women and youth. In preparation to the plenary session, which will be attended by many high-level development shapers, a Youth Forum will identify key issues. In addition, all parties have been requested to include a youth representative in their respective delegations to the HLM. This ultimately offers young people from all over the world the opportunity to raise their voice on development issues that matter for them.

    4. Via several side-events, many inspiring and innovative initiatives were showcased, including The Road to Nairobi 2016. Selected youth entrepreneurs were invited to share their experiences with this project and showed how they took leadership by co-creating solutions and actions to promote youth employment in their countries. More information on the GPEDC can be found on: http://effectivecooperation.org/
